RAISE £555,555 FOR MY NAME’5 DODDIE FOUNDATION

About

700 mile walk and cycle challenge from Edinburgh to Paris for the Rugby World Cup. TO RAISE £555,555 FOR MY NAME’5 DODDIE FOUNDATION

To mark the first Rugby World Cup since Doddie Weir’s sad passing, Kenny Logan and friends are set to take part in a unique and grueling challenge from Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, to the Stade de France, Paris.

Supported by World Rugby, Kenny and supporters will be delivering the match ball to the final Pool B match – Ireland v Scotland, as well as raising important funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to support their fight against Motor Neuron Disease.

Kenny earned 70 caps for Scotland and enjoyed success at club level with Stirling County, Glasgow and most famously at London Wasps where he won the European Cup three times.

It was with the Scottish national side that he played alongside Doddie Weir and their friendship grew. Since Doddie announced his MND diagnosis, Kenny has taken it upon himself to do everything he can to support Doddie and his family as well as the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Kenny and his sports marketing agency, Logan Sports Marketing, have raised millions for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation through various commercial activities.

“It’s hard to put into words what Doddie meant to me and my family.

He was the most loving, kind and courageous person I knew; and it was these traits that drove him to fight MND for longer than expected and raise millions of pounds along the way.

Let’s all come together to finish what Doddie started and find a cure for MND.”

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was created after Doddie’s diagnosis and continues his legacy today, they are absolutely committed to their vision of achieving a world free of MND, leaving no stone unturned in the relentless pursuit of this goal.

MND is a disease which affects the motor neurons of the nervous system. It is life shortening and mostly progresses rapidly. It damages and attacks the nerves, meaning that messages being sent from the brain to the muscles no longer work. MND leads to weakness in the muscles and eventually paralysis but it does not usually affect the senses. Unfortunately, 1/3 of people succumb to MND within a year and more than 1/2 within two years of diagnosis.

Founded in 1954, Arnold Clark began with a single-car showroom on Glasgow’s Park Road. Sir Arnold Clark, the founder of the company, left the Royal Air Force and used his demob money to buy a Morris Ten Four for £70 and after restoring the car to its original condition, he sold it for a profit. From this first venture, Arnold Clark began to buy and sell cars.

Fast forward 66 years, and Arnold Clark is the UK’s leading independently owned car retailer. Driven by our founder’s simple philosophy – to offer genuine value for money and customer service of the highest level – the company continues to flourish. Today, Arnold Clark holds 200 branches across the country, stretching from Elgin to Southampton, and sells over 300,00 cars a year.

As a large Scottish business, we would like to support this incredible challenge which shows Kenny and the team’s continued determination to raise awareness and find a cure for such a devastating disease. Undoubtedly, everyone can take inspiration from Doddie and the way he fought MND with such bravery. His drive to raise awareness of the disease as well as his uncompromising focus on helping others will be an inspiration to many for years to come,  and it is a great honour to help continue his legacy.

Specialized believe bicycles have the power to change lives. Since 1974, they’ve taken athletes to the pinnacle of their sport, and bought that innovation to the masses with a broad selection of bikes, e-bikes and equipment, all focused on improving riders lives. When quality tyres weren’t around, they strove to make the best. When people wanted to ride cruisers in the dirt, they made the first production mountain bike. When roadies wanted to go faster, they doubled-down on carbon and built their own wind tunnel. As they approach their 50th Anniversary, Specialized remains as committed and passionate about riding as ever.

Specialized is proud to support the riders as they undertake this huge challenge. We know what it takes to spend that long on a bike, and we’ll work hard to share our expertise and equip riders to be successful, and raise as much as possible for the fantastic My Name’s Doddie Foundation.
